Local Health Workers for NMCIREMP Pilot Areas trained
A total of 29 participants representing 39 barangays of seven municipalities of Misamis Oriental recently underwent a Seminar Workshop on Water Collection and Chlorination held at the Association of Barangay Councils Multi-purpose Hall in Claveria, Misamis Oriental. The training which comprised three clusters of Misamis Oriental Eastern Towns (MISORET) coincided with the Earth Day Celebration.
The training which is normally conducted for Rural Sanitation Inspectors of the Municipal Health Office, for the first time in Misamis Oriental, was afforded to Barangay Health Workers (BHWs), being the frontline health workers in the remote areas. “Sa matag lungsod sa MISORET, usa lang ang Sanitation Inspector ug dili tanan barangay dungan niya nga maadtuan. Ang atong mga Barangay Health Workers ang mga epektibo nga katabang sa ahensya sa kaayohang panglawas aron dali ug himpit nilang maipaabot ngadto sa mga katawhan ngadto sa kabanikanhan ang nanag-unang serbisyo sa kaayohang panglawas.” Marlene Lamparero, Health Education Program Officer of Misamis Oriental Provincial Health Office, said. (For ever municipality of the Province there is but only one Sanitation Inspector who could not attend to all Barangays immediately at one time. The Barangay Health Workers are the effective health agency aides who could immediately attend to and deliver much needed basic health services.
The Training would equip Barangay Health Workers with more knowledge on sanitation and disease prevention caused by water-borne diseases that are prevalent in identified barangays covered by the Deparment of Agrarian Reform – International Fund for Agricultural Development – Northern Mindanao Community Initiatives and Resource Management Project (DAR-IFAD NMCIREMP)
Meanwhile, a medical team from the Provincial Health Office of Misamis Oriental in cooperation with a Non-Government Organization (NGO), the Global Foundation Inc. is set to give free medical services to the tribal communities of Minalwang, Claveria, Misamis Oriental as an offshoot to the Earth Day Celebration. |
